Why we founded Afraset Analytics
Afraset Analytics was born from a deep concern for the critical decisions farmers and agricultural programs face without adequate, usable information. Across livestock and aquaculture systems, vast amounts of data—on growth, survival, and production—are collected. Yet, too often, these records fail to genuinely help farmers improve their outcomes.
We saw producers and communities working tirelessly, investing precious resources, still encountering avoidable losses, inconsistent performance, and slow progress. The issue wasn't a lack of effort; it was the absence of practical analytical support to turn everyday records into trustworthy, applicable guidance. Our mission is to provide tools and advice that respect the realities of farming in Africa—limited resources, variable conditions, and the need for immediate, practical solutions. We empower people to make better decisions using the data they already have, strengthening productivity, resilience, and long-term sustainability.
Our unique approach to data
At Afraset Analytics, our approach is built on the ground realities of farming and agricultural projects in Africa. We understand that many solutions fail because they assume perfect data, high budgets, advanced infrastructure, or constant internet access. Our starting point is different: we design analyses to work with the records farms and projects *already* collect, whether they are paper-based logs, simple Excel files, or basic digital records.
We prioritize extracting value from existing information and delivering results in an easy-to-understand, actionable format. A key difference is our emphasis on context; recommendations are tailored to local production systems, species, management practices, and constraints, ensuring scientific soundness and practical implementability. Crucially, we focus on capacity building, aiming to strengthen local skills in data use so farms and institutions can achieve continuous improvement independently.

Afraset Analytics envisions a future where livestock and aquaculture systems across Africa are significantly more productive, resilient, and sustainable, driven by evidence rather than uncertainty. We aim to normalize data use in everyday farm management, breeding, and program evaluation.
Our work is designed to foster more consistent productivity, reduced losses through informed decisions, and stronger local technical capacity for independent data analysis. We advocate for sustainable genetic improvement based on realistic strategies and improved accountability for public and donor-funded programs. Ultimately, we seek to build agricultural systems where data-driven decision-making is accessible, practical, and deeply embedded at all levels—from individual farms to national programs.
